Whose Son Does Chris Lane Look Like ???

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, August 22, 2013, In : News

I am both angry and saddened over the senseless murder of Chris Lane. He is a young man from Australia who came to this country in hopes of playing college baseball. He also was close with his American girlfriend and just recently arrived here in the United States. He had high hopes and big dreams.

Now he is dead.

Why is he no longer living you ask? Because some teenaged punkish thugs were "bored."  That was the word that they used...bored. They were looking for something to do and wanted a t...

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen-ASG-028088.jpg

“Look, you cannot underestimate the fine power of self-loathing in all of this,” the Jersey native told The New Yorker.

“You think, I don’t like anything I’m seeing, I don’t like anything I’m doing, but I need to change myself, I need to transform myself. I do not know a single artist who does not run on that fuel.”

The above quotes are the words of "THE BOSS" - Bruce Springsteen. It was widely reported this week that the artist was deeply depressed in the eighties when...

Should We Really Be Surprised by the School Bus Monitor Incident ?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, In : News

Last week a story broke in the news that had folks crying foul and for good reason. A video clip of middle schoolers launching a vicious verbal attack on an elderly school bus monitor went viral. I suppose it took off in terms of the number of views that it had because it was apparently shocking to many folks. It wasn't to me.

I taught school for many years and perhaps that is why I was saddened by the video but certainly not shocked. I did not teach middle schoolers, I taught third grade how...

Children Sleeping with Parents can be a Dangerous Thing !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, June 18, 2012, In : News

Parents sleeping with children is becoming more popular these days. After all, it is a cozy and sweet experience right? Think again. On the news today one of the headlines is about an eight month old baby that suffocated while sleeping with daddy on an easy chair. The dad fell asleep and so did the baby and the baby became wedged between daddy and the chair and suffered a cardiac arrest. This is not sweet but sad.

It is being reported that infants and very small children are sleeping with mo...

The Jerry Sandusky Case

Posted by Pam Hastings on Saturday, June 16, 2012, In : News

The picture above is of a disturbed and dangerous man. As all of America is aware he is presently on trial for sexually abusing scores of young boys over a period of several years. There are nine alleged victims who have testified over recent days of the unspeakable and disgusting abuse that they suffered at the hands of a man who was heralded as one of the most beloved and revered coaches and mentors in the world of college football. Therein lies the problem. He was so popular, so looked up ...

Sarah Palin

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, In : News

Whether you like Sarah Palin or not, you cannot argue that she is a hugely influential person. This morning more than just a few folks have won elections in the eleventh hour and it is no coincidence that Sarah Palin threw her political weight and support behind these people in the last couple of days before the election. Many of the news stations today are reporting that her endorsement and backing was an important deciding factor in these victories.

Let’s face it, you either love her...

Did Balloon Boy Spill The Beans On Larry King Live Last Night?...Time Will Tell !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, October 16, 2009, In : News

I had every intention to not write today about anything in the news but what I witnessed on television yesterday for about two hours prevents me from sticking with my plan. I was one of what I am sure was probably millions of viewers completely captivated by the sight of a helium balloon sailing across the sky with claims that a six year old boy named Falcon was inside the compartment beneath the balloon. This incident was all happening live and I found myself staring at this balloon with my ...

Days of Unbiased News Coverage Are Long Gone!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, September 14, 2009, In : News

Last week, tens of thousands of American citizens gathered in Washington for a national Tea Party to demonstrate their concern, their love, their loyalty to our country. They marched peacefully and respectfully and let it be known that they, like many of us, are seriously alarmed at the direction that President Obama is attempting to take this country. They wanted to publicly unite and show that they are against big government that is trying to control many aspects of our lives that it has n...

Enrich Yourself Today on Sept. 11th- Read Kathie Scobee's letter...

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, September 11, 2009, In : News

Today is September 11th, 2009. Eight years ago today our nation was rocked and shaken up by one of the most devastating tragedies to ever hit our home soil. Although Americans everywhere have been affected and changed by this event, those who have been truly devastated are those who lost a family member that day. My heart especially goes out to the many children whose mom and dad were killed that day. Those kids never imagined that the last goodbye that they said to their parent on that day ...

Dancing Down the Wedding Aisle...Entertaining?-Yes!...Sacred?-No!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, In : News

Since several of my most recent articles have been centered on what has been happening lately in the news, I had every intention to make today’s blog topic that which has not been in the headlines as of late. A recent clip however, of a wedding that made national news and has become a YouTube sensation is preventing me from doing so.   I must write about the hype of the wedding dance in which the wedding party, the groom, and then finally the bride dance and boogey their way down...

Obama is Forced to Do Damage Control...But Should We Really Care About What Beer He Drinks?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, In : News

Last Friday’s blog discussed the recent incident involving the Cambridge professor, Mr. Gates and the police officer who arrested him, Sgt. Crowley. The morning that I wrote that was the same day in which several police departments held a National news conference that afternoon. In that news conference, the police announced that they were solidly and unanimously in support of Sgt. Crowley and his actions. It was only then, last Friday afternoon, that President Obama started to rethi...

President Obama and Mr. Gates are the Only Ones Who Owe an Apology!!!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, July 24, 2009, In : News

I do not know how many of you were able to hear President Obama’s remarks about the officer who arrested Henry Louis Gates who is a friend of the President. He is also reported to be a Harvard scholar, however his recent behavior mirrors that of unruly grade school boy instead.

A neighbor of Mr. Gates had called the police reporting that there were two individuals with back packs looking as though they were trying to force their way into Mr. Gates’ home and the witness...

Apollo 11...It's Forty Years Later and We Are Still So Proud!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, July 20, 2009, In : News

Forty years ago on July 20, 1969 I remember sitting in the livingroom as a twelve year old staring at the television. I was glued to it and I could feel my heart thumping inside of me as I watched the lunar module close in on the moon and then finally land on the moon’s surface. I remember my dad hooting and hollering and even though I was just a kid, I felt a huge sense of pride to be an American. I still remember those famous words uttered by Neil Armstrong as he stepped foot on t...

Today's Headline Story- "Stomach Tumor Turns out to be Baby"....Wow!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, In : News

Many times I am so struck by a news headline that I immediately know that I must write about it in my next blog. Such was the case last night when I saw the headline “Stomach Tumor Turns Out to be Baby.” When I read that headline, I felt like checking the calendar to just confirm that we are indeed living in the year 2009. I just could not imagine a woman of today going through most of her pregnancy not realizing that she was carrying a baby inside of her.

        I have heard...

Don't Dumb Down - You're Smarter Than That!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, July 10, 2009, In : News

This morning I endured with a degree of amusement a report of yet another interview with Levi Johnston, the young man who is the father of Bristol Palin’s baby. This time he was being questioned as to the reason that Sarah Palin has stepped down from being governor of Alaska. He cited both money and family reasons which may or may not be why Sarah Palin has made the decision to not fulfill her term as governor.

What amazes me is not so much Levi’s answer, but why we ar...

Congress Pauses for a Moment of Silence for Michael Jackson? I'm Embarrassed for my Nation Today!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, July 9, 2009, In : News

Today I read an article that both infuriated and saddened me. It was about none other than Michael Jackson. I have already written a previous blog about Jackson in which I tried to measure my response about the ridiculous and nonstop media coverage. I recognized the fact that his family and those close to him who loved him were sincerely grieving as it is tremendously painful to lose a loved one at any time but especially when that death comes suddenly and unexpectedly. I still feel e...

It's Headline News..the Fly is Dead....God Help Us.

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, In : News

This morning I was reading the headlines of the news and one particular top news story just jumped out at me. The headline was “ OBAMA SWATS PESKY FLY DURING INTERVIEW!”  I sat there not knowing what to think. I mean, this headline was sandwiched in between news of the protests in Iran and all of the taxpayer money that is being funneled to the IMF and I couldn’t help but be puzzled. The more I pondered it, the more absurd it seemed but the less baffled I was. After all, President Ob...

It's a Bird, it's a Plane, it's George#41!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, In : News

This past week, our forty-first president of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush did something extraordinary. He spent the afternoon skydiving. That would not have been such a notable event except for the fact that he jumped out of that plane on his 85th birthday. Granted, it was a tandem jump which means that he jumped attached together with an experienced skydiver, but that is still quite an accomplishment. I watched the news today where a reporter interviewed several eld...

David Letterman and Wanda Sykes- Are You Proud of Yourselves?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Saturday, June 13, 2009, In : News

The other evening on a late night entertainment show, the host, David Letterman revealed to America how low he is willing to stoop, supposedly in the name of comedy. I did not watch the show at the time, but saw the clip that was being shown several times over the next couple of days. What Letterman did was to make not just a derogatory remark about one of Sarah Palin’s daughters, but a remark so disgusting, so irresponsible that I feel the entire show from the writers, producers a...

President Obama, Please Learn from Little Alison!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, In : News

One particular year of teaching third grade, I had a student who learned a powerful lesson. Her name was Alison and she was a sweet, adorable little girl however she had one glaring fault. She continually apologized for everything that took place in the classroom whether it was her fault or not. During the first few days of school I actually was quite impressed with how she was more than willing to take the blame for any and all problems or infractions. I remember thinking that she w...

The Death of David Carradine- "Grasshopper" Teaches Us One Last Lesson

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, June 5, 2009, In : News

Yesterday when I turned on the news, one of the first items that I heard was that David Carradine had been found hanged in a hotel room. I also read last night that all signs are pointing to suicide as the cause of death although that fact has not been confirmed. I was fairly stunned not because I at all know David Carradine or anything personal about his private life, but because I remember so well the hit T.V. series, Kung Fu. As a kid, it probably would not have been my first choice o...

Thank you Susan Boyle

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, In : News

If we ever needed a classic example and a picture of so much of what is wrong with our society, we need look no further than what has happened to Susan Boyle. If you are a living breathing soul, and if you live on our planet, you should be aware of this lady and what has happened to her over this past month.

Susan is forty-seven years old and lives in a small Scottish village. Most of her adult life she has cared for her mother who passed away within the past c...

John and Kate Plus Eight = A Potentially Sad End

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, May 28, 2009, In : News

A few years ago, the new rage that hit television prime time was families with multiple children such as the Duggars and John and Kate plus Eight or familes that had intriguing stories such as Little People Big World. I plead guilty to succumbing to the draw of these shows as I have always been keenly interested in any programs centering around family life. As a kid , I was tuned in every week to the Brady Bunch and as a young adult I could tell you what day of the week and what time the Cosb...
