I Woke Up and Saw the News and Then Promptly Slammed my Head Against the Wall !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, May 13, 2016, In : Current Topics

Did we ever think that we would see the day ?
 Did we ?
The day where the president of the United States is blackmailing school districts all over the country with thousands of dollars of funds if the schools do not allow boys into the girls restrooms and locker rooms and visa versa ?

Here is my question...when and where does the lunacy stop ?
At what point do we scream ' enough ?'
Does something called COMMON SENSE exist at all any more ?

I believe that it does, but we are literally lettin...

Police Officers

We live in weird times. Weird because we seem to glorify and emulate celebrities, movie stars, pro athletes and anyone who is rich or famous. Sad.

The people however who should be receiving our praise, thanks, and recognition are instead being attacked and criticized. We are an upside down world and this is evidenced no more clearly than in the present climate of how police are being viewed in our nation today.

Are there a few bad cops out there ? Of course. Just like there are a few bad teach...

Gotta Feel Badly Sometimes for the Other RG :)

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, In : Current Topics

All of us who are Redskins fans are jumping for joy this year ! We finally have a quarterback who is talented, gutsy, and tough. There was a collective gasp when his leg was turned into a vibrating spring when bulldozed this past Sunday. This gasp could be heard coming directly out of the TV from the fans in Fed Ex stadium. Well, not quite...but almost :)

Today there is another sigh heard around Washington but it is one of relief as we got the report that RG 3's injury is a grade one spra...

Talk About Facebook

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, July 26, 2012, In : Current Topics

I am one of the most frequent users of Facebook. I simply plead guilty to that charge. It is a medium that has connected me with lost friends and family members as well as providing a quick and convenient way of touching base with others on a daily basis. I can read experiences and see pictures of what is happening in the lives of those that I care about. It has many advantages of helping me to feel and stay connected to others and for that I applaud it.

Sadly however, I ...

I Am So Proud to be an American !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, In : Current Topics

Living in the Unites States of America and being an American is a privilege and a blessing that I do not take for granted. There is a reason why people from all corners of the earth try to come to our great country and that is because we are the greatest nation on earth. We have a multitude of problems but the plusses far outweigh ...

“ To those of you who received honors, awards, and distinctions, I say well done. To all of you “C” students, you too may one day be president of the United States. – George W. Bush

For the past year or so , it could be said that George W. Bush has been one of the most maligned men in America. He has received the blame for many of the country’s failures whether it is deserved or not. I personally have always liked the guy. One of his great strengths in my opinion is his ability t...

Christians and Patriots...The Most Persecuted Groups in America !

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Some of the leading stories in the news this week should cause us all to lose sleep. The alarm bells should be clanging…the neon warning sign should be blinking nonstop. Why?  Because if we do not wake up soon, I am afraid that the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln’s quote above will most definitely become a reality.

Here are some of the incredibl...

Choose to Be Extraordinary...It will Fill You With Joy !

“It’s odd that you can become so anesthetized by your own pain or your own problem that you don’t quite fully share the hell of someone close to you” – Lady Bird Johnson

This quote by one of our former first ladies arrested me as I read it probably because of its unquestionable truth. Perhaps it caught my attention because this week in particular in northern Virgi...

Let's Pray For Little Somer And Her Family In Florida!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, In : Current Topics

My mind has been boggled as I have watched the news both late last night and also this morning about the little seven year old girl that has vanished in Florida. She had scampered off of the school bus with her twin brother and older ten year old sister and some other children from the same neighborhood. She ran ahead about fifty yards in front of them and turned a corner. In that couple of minutes that she was out of sight, she disappeared. When her brother and sister arrived home a few min...

A First Grader Sent to An Alternative School For Bringing A Cub Scout Utensil to Class...Where Has Common Sense Gone?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, In : Current Topics

I read in the news yesterday that a little six year old boy had been suspended for an extended period of time because he brought a cub scout utensil of sorts to school. Apparently the “weapon” in question was a type of fold up can opener and small pocket knife. Initially the punishment that was being slapped on this supposed miniature criminal is that he would have to attend an alternative school designed for problematic kids for a time period of approximated six weeks or so. Once again, ...

I Am A Vikings Fan Now- Number Four Is Just Too Fun To Watch!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, In : Current Topics

A lot of my female friends are most likely going to be irritated about the blog today because the majority of them are not all that jazzed about football. I suppose being raised in a home with five brothers and no sisters simply destined me to be a sports lover and fanatic as when I think back, it seems as though that was all that was ever on the television at my home growing up. I can remember many a Sunday afternoon in which my brothers and my dad were in an uproar cheering on either the S...

David Letterman- A Foolish Man Who Is To Be Pitied

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, October 2, 2009, In : Current Topics

Isn’t it amazing that David Letterman was cracking jokes about the life and morality of Sarah Palin’s teenaged daughter and yet another news story about him and his own life broke today?

Last night David Letterman announced during his monologue laced with jokes that he has been having sexual affairs with members of his staff. The only reason that he was confessing this is because he was the victim of a recent extortion attempt by someone aware of this and this person was trying to s...

In The Dating World, Texting Is For Cowards !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, October 1, 2009, In : Current Topics

Our daughter just started college this fall and she is having a ball. She has now been there just over a month and we have received just one “down” call if you will which is not so bad. She is a confident, outgoing, extrovert and so my husband and I were not really expecting her to be experiencing too many homesick days. In fact, she recently said to me on the phone “Mom, I love college, but even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t want to come right back home… I would need to do something di...

Let's Just Get Real and Honest About The Redskins !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, September 28, 2009, In : Current Topics

What do Norv Turner, Steve Spurrier, Marty Shottenheimer, even Joe Gibbs all have in common ? They have all tried to coach under the watchful eye of Dan Snyder. I think a fair statement to say is that having a lot of green bills in one’s pocket does not then make one a wise and successful team owner.

There have been countless things said about Snyder over the many years since he took over the Redskins….some say he is way too involved in the whole area of the coaching. There have been ...

Did You Vote For Obama? Are You Scared Yet?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, In : Current Topics

‘I read that the terror threat security level was raised today and I also saw on the news that security is being beefed up throughout New York City as well.  In light of the recent arrests of three men in the United States who had been planning and plotting attacks on our homeland, I suppose that I am not surprised. One does not need to be an expert on intelligence and security to realize that some of the recent decisions being made by our president simply do not do much to make the citizen...

Hey Kanye West , Joe Wilson, and Serena Williams...It's Not All About You !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, In : Current Topics

Everyone is abuzz about Joe Wilson , Serena Williams, and Kanye West and their public displays of out of control behavior this past week. The new screaming headline is “WHERE HAS CIVILITY GONE ?” I sort of chuckle at that question because these recent public displays of emotion running wild should not startle us, should they?  I guess what I mean by that is that we are living in the “ME” culture. Apparently none of these three individuals have read the first sentence in Rick Warren...

All About Facebook...Some Food For Thought!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, In : Current Topics

When I first learned about Facebook about a year or so ago, I was intrigued but did not jump in with both feet. Being the tech dinosaur that I am, I was hesitant and really did not want to be bothered with it. My adult son continued to encourage me however and so slowly, I became familiar enough with it to understand it.

As I said, that was approximately a year ago and a lot can change in a year. For the past four or five months, not only am I understanding it, but I find m...

Oppositional Defiance Disorder Known as "ODD"... is not a Medical, but a Human Condition!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Sunday, July 12, 2009, In : Current Topics

A few weeks ago, I was talking with a teenager who I know very well and who I am close to and she was sharing with me her concerns for one of her friends. She has been worried about her friend being “over medicated.” That concern immediately raised my antennae as I see a potential red flag waving any time I hear the words “teen” and “medication” in the same sentence.

When I inquired further, she informed me that this teen whom she knows seems to be sluggish and ...

Michael Jackson

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, June 29, 2009, In : Current Topics

I vowed inwardly to myself that I wouldn’t do it, and I even made a half hearted promise to myself to not do it. I even told some folks closest to me that I wouldn’t do it, but this morning I realized that I simply cannot help myself. I have to write today’s blog on Michael Jackson. I have to “talk” about it much like someone needs a therapist to express some intense inner emotion that he or she has bottled up inside of them.

Some folks have verbalized their tot...

Put Old Glory In Her Proper Place This Fourth of July!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, In : Current Topics

In less than two weeks we will be celebrating the birth of our country. I was thinking about that the other day as I dropped my daughter off at her job which is a nanny position for a young family in the military. This family lives on the Marine Corps base and I was greatly encouraged by what I saw in their neighborhood as I drove up to their house. As I was turning into their circle, house after house was displaying Old Glory from a flag holder on the front of their homes. Those red,...

" In the Dog House " Is No Longer a Bad Place to Be

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, May 14, 2009, In : Current Topics
The other night I checked out the much heralded movie "Marley and Me" . I have heard great things about this film, mainly that it tugs on the heart and causes the tears to flow...like a river. Not wanting to be in the middle of an ugly cry without tissues, I made sure that I had the trusty kleenex box perched next to me before I got too comfy and before I hit the play button. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film as it was easy going, family oriented, void of foul language ( a rarity ...

Generation of silent communication

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, In : Current Topics
The other night my teenaged daughter and I were out to dinner and the family sitting in the booth directly across  from us had apparently caught her attention because I noticed her continually looking over at them for the first fifteen minutes that we were in the restaurant. When I asked her what she was looking at, she replied "check them out...the kids have been on their cells texting the whole time that we have been here.. they haven't talked to their parents at all and the parents...
