Parents - Trust Your Instincts - Your Inner Voice

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, June 27, 2013,

Parenting teens can be a tricky thing. It has both extremes of great joy when our kids experience victories yet also can be a time of worry and semi-panic when we are not entirely sure that we have the whole story about a situation. This uncertainty is just simply part of the journey for the parent of a teenager. I say this because every mom and dad who has emerged sane and intact after weathering their child's teen years knows full well that the nature of parenthood during the this era is...

Common Sense Rules to Follow for the Grandparent - Grandchild Relationship to be a Fun and Healthy One :)

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, June 24, 2013, In : Family

I answer to a lot of different names...."Mom", "Pam", "Hey You" and other names by other drivers for example that I won't mention here...(ha). One name that I love to be called though is " Mimi " because those calling me that are my grand babies. Grand parenting can be a really wonderful experience - however like all great things in this life, if we are careless and or unwise, something that is great and wonderful can easily morph into an unpleasant experience. After being in this grand...

Is Honesty Fading ?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, June 21, 2013, In : Spiritual

I had a conversation recently with a young twenty-something person who was telling me that they had just enjoyed a day at a certain outdoor recreational area. When I inquired as to how this person was able to go to this particular place, because one is required to show an ID tag that proves that they live in a certain subdivision , this person simply shrugged and said " Oh, I just made up an address and that was good enough." When giving me this answer, this individual had a total "ho hum, s...

Am I Really Surprised at Bill Maher's Use of This Word ?

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, June 20, 2013, In : Lessons Learned

A video clip caught my attention today. It was about the use of the term "retard" and how BIll Maher recently used this word in reference to Sarah Palin's youngest child. I had two reactions to this news ; appalled but not surprised when one considers the source. Bill Maher is not known for his class or for his awareness of what is important in life. However , it is not just this infamous individual who uses this expression. I have noticed a resurgence of this word in recent years and that i...

Tim Duncan - Class on the Court

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, In : Lessons Learned

As was expected, today there is much talk about the sixth game of the series of the NBA finals that was played last night between the Spurs and the Heat. Everyone has their own opinions about the officiating which was questionable at best, however that is not the topic of the blog today. Instead, I just had to write about one specific player. His name is Tim Duncan and let's just be honest ; this guy is a breath of fresh air.

He is a thirty-seven year old veteran of the game, one of the best...

Um...No thank you - I Am the Grandparent...So I WIll Opt Out of the Prenatal Classes !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, In : Lessons Learned

I was stunned when I heard that Pre-natal classes are now being offered for grandparents. Just four words came screaming into my mind when I heard that - BEEN THERE DONE THAT !  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being with our grandbabies. They are my love and my joy and the same is true with my husband but make no mistake about it, I just don't want to be doing the pre-natal thing all over again. Maybe it is because something like having to go to a class lends itself to the idea that I am going to...

Don't Shield Your Child From Disappointment

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, June 17, 2013,

Too often we try to keep our little ones from being disappointed ...ever. What a mistake. It just seems that in today's world parents are sometimes attempting to keep their child from feeling sadness or disappointment in any form. Society as a whole is also buying into this mentality, hence the practice of every child receiving a trophy just for participating in a sport. It also is the reason for not keeping score in youth sports and why some schools are actually banning honor rolls for fea...

Facing Death yet Unafraid - The Karla Faye Tucker Story

Posted by Pam Hastings on Sunday, June 16, 2013, In : Spiritual

If I knew that I was soon to be executed in just a matter of days, my emotional state might resemble this lady in the picture above. However I just finished reading a book entitled Karla Faye Tucker -Set Free. It is the true story of a woman who committed a heinous, unspeakable crime and was sentenced to die. She murdered two people while they were sleeping when she was just nineteen years old. She spent approximately fourteen years on death row before being executed in the state of Te...

When DAD is One of the Kids :)

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, June 14, 2013,

At first glance this picture looks like a poor harried mom with all of her rambunctious kiddos. Look again ! The oldest child waving his stuffed animal in the air really seems to be having a wild time. Wait a minute - that oldest sibling is actually sporting a five o'clock shadow. Maybe that is because he is not the older brother , but dad. Ahhh yes...we all know this scene, don't we ladies ? How many times have we as moms heard a ruckus in the next room and rushed in to stop the chaos only...

I've Been Blackmailed !!!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, June 14, 2013,
I have been served notice and actually, it is not a bad thing. My son has threatened to hijack this blog if I do not write and post within 24 hours and in fact I think my time has now dwindled to about 23 hours. He gave me this blog as a gift about three years ago on Mother's Day and I faithfully wrote in it every single day for six months ...which was my downfall. I burnt myself out plain and simple. I tried to resurrect it a few times and faded out again. Tonight while visiting he an...

You have 24 hours to write a post or this will become "Matt Hastings Blog"!

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, June 14, 2013,
Mom,

I'm disappointed in you. I spent time setting up this blog as a gift for you on Mother's Day awhile back. Everyone in the family knows this was the best Mother's Day gift you've ever received. It's the best gift because, for better or worse, it will be a living legacy of your thoughts and opinions for all the kids and grandkids to read through in the years to come.

I'm disappointed because your last blog post was in December 2012!!! What's that all about? So then I became curious, I went t...
