Moments That Try Our Patience

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, August 29, 2013,

I guess some people  would say this kid in the picture above is being rude or misbehaving. I don't necessarily think so. For all we know, his sister just kicked him in the shins or something. We just don't know do we ? I will tell you a story however about a kid who definitely falls into the " rude " category. It happened to me the other day.

I was walking out of 7-11 and a kid who looked to be about eleven or twelve years old was standing right outside the door as I was exiting the store. Ju...

Something to Remember as a New School Year Begins

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, August 28, 2013,

Sometime last week, this week, or next week most students will return to school. We all know that every school year holds both highs and lows. This post is something to hold onto when you hit the lows whether you are a student, a parent, or a teacher. I have been all three so I feel somewhat qualified to jot down a few thoughts about this issue.

Bottom line is parents feel more passionate about their kids than just about anything else in life. Because of this, when problems arise , teachers n...

Whose Son Does Chris Lane Look Like ???

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, August 22, 2013, In : News

I am both angry and saddened over the senseless murder of Chris Lane. He is a young man from Australia who came to this country in hopes of playing college baseball. He also was close with his American girlfriend and just recently arrived here in the United States. He had high hopes and big dreams.

Now he is dead.

Why is he no longer living you ask? Because some teenaged punkish thugs were "bored."  That was the word that they used...bored. They were looking for something to do and wanted a t...

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

" COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY "  - Theodore Roosevelt

Ol' Teddy possessed some wisdom, did he not ? His quote above is profound because it is so true ! In both young and old alike I see a common practice that results in folks losing their joy. It is looking around at the other guy and thinking he is smarter, better looking, thinner, richer, more creative, more interesting....just all around better.

It is called COMPARISON - a clever ploy used by our enemy the devil. He is cleve...

INKED

Posted by Pam Hastings on Tuesday, August 20, 2013,

This week I am feeling like I must be 157 years old instead of just the 57 years young that I am! ( ha ha )  Notice how I cleverly used that word "just" ? I do mental tricks like that with myself now and then. I like to think of myself as a fairly tuned in and current person. I never want to be so out of touch, so archaic that I find myself completely unable to relate to the younger generation or even those that approach life from a different perspective than I.

This week however has opened ...

Never Giving Up on Your Kids

Posted by Pam Hastings on Friday, August 16, 2013,

Holding hands with a toddler isn't hard. It isn't tricky. In fact, we just naturally want to grasp onto those soft, pudgy, little fingers and hold on tight. Our teen and young adult children are a different story. As parents , it is our job to successfully raise those ankle biters to adulthood with both their minds and ours in tact.....not always an easy task.

The truth is that kids raised in the exact same family under the same roof often take very different paths. One child may be complian...

A Message to a Very Special Little Boy Who Will be Born Soon - Grandbaby # 8 !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, August 12, 2013,

In about six weeks, our family will be celebrating a very special event....the arrival of our next grand baby. He will be the first child of our youngest son and his wife, Matty and Lindsay. He will be joining seven older cousins, two sets of adoring grandparents, and many Aunts and Uncles and a mom and dad who will love him to the moon and back. He is a wanted, cherished, blessed little boy already.

This message is to him ...from his Mimi.

Right now you are still in your mommy's tummy but...

God Knows The Thoughts That He Thinks Towards Us

Posted by Pam Hastings on Wednesday, August 7, 2013,

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Are you in pain today ? Maybe not physical pain but do your heart and your mind hurt ? In other words, are you in some sort of emotional pain? You are not alone....but the devil wants you to think that you are. That's right, I said the devil. Some reading this post may be scoffing right now but evil is nothing to guffaw over or to smirk at.  Sat...

An Interesting Truth About Raising Oldest Children

Posted by Pam Hastings on Monday, August 5, 2013,

“Parents always make their worst mistakes with their oldest children. That's when parents know the least and care the most, so they're more likely to be wrong and also more likely to insist that they're right.”
Orson Scott Card

I wholeheartedly agree with the above quote. I remember well how intensely concerned I was about every little detail of our firstborn's life. I recall reading child rearing books, medical books on how to treat many childhood ailments and studying o...

One of the Worst Things You can do to Your Children !

Posted by Pam Hastings on Thursday, August 1, 2013, In : Lessons Learned

Yes, you are seeing the picture right. There are training wheels on the tricycle above. Never mind the fact that it is almost virtually impossible for a kid on a tricycle to flip over. Parents can just never be too careful these days....or can they ? Folks, I realize that I am a senior citizen now and therefore am past the child bearing and child rearing years - Praise God :) I am not too old however to remember those days when our home was full of kiddos and I have noticed one HUGE crucial ...
